The Adaptive Agriculture and Rangeland Rehabilitation Project (A2R2) is a large-scale initiative aimed at improving the resilience of vulnerable communities in Somalia to climate change while restoring degraded ecosystems and promoting sustainable natural resource management.

72,000 households (50% female).

Project Goal & Objective

Goal: To restore degraded land, conserve biodiversity, and enhance the adaptive capacity of vulnerable households through climate-resilient and sustainable natural resource management.

Objective:

Strengthen the climate resilience of rural households by improving water and rangeland management. Promote eco-agriculture, climate-proof livelihoods, and forest rehabilitation. Enhance governance and information systems for land degradation and biodiversity.

Mainstreamed Activities for Impact

Youth and Women’s Engagement. Financial Empowerment through VSLAs and SHGs. Participatory Targeting Approaches. Landscape-Based Management of Forests and Rangelands.

Step : 02.

Improved Water Resources & Rangeland Management

Eco-Agriculture and Climate-Proof Livelihoods: Adoption of climate-smart inputs and technologies. Forest and Habitat Rehabilitation: Sustainable forestry and agroecological techniques. Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Governance and Information Systems: For monitoring land degradation and biodiversity. Income Generating Activities (IGAs): Access to credit and micro-financing through VSLAs and SHGs.

The project is implemented in collaboration with: Federal Ministries: Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation (MoAI), Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. State Ministries: Agriculture and Environment ministries of HSS, SWS, Galmudug, and Jubaland. NGOs and CBOs: Supporting community-led initiatives. Private Sector: Including seed companies and microfinance institutions.
